Tasting Notes and Scores
Bright red-ruby. Deep aromas of blackberry, licorice and mocha lifted by a violet topnote. Thick, silky and powerful, with the black fruit and violet flavors complicated by saline minerality. Quite brawny for Clos Saint-Denis but leavened by harmonious acidity. Finishes with terrific rising black fruit persistence, the firm tannins spreading out to saturate the entire palate. The crop level here was a modest 27 hectoliters per hectare, according to Magnien.

The 2013 Clos Saint Denis Grand Cru, which comes from 0.15-hectares located in the lieu-dit of Chaffots that makes around two barrels, has a very pure and refined bouquet with raspberry preserves, freshly picked strawberry, hints of violet and vanilla pod that is nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins, good acidity, slightly honeyed in texture, with plenty of richness on the finish. This is a more opulent Clos Saint Denis in the making and should drink earlier than other, yet give great pleasure.
