Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes from Bouzereau has a well defined bouquet with almond and blackberry leaf scents, plenty of citrus fruit and walnut oil. Très Meursault. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, quite saline in the mouth, the kind of Meursault that leaves taste buds salivating. Harmonious, well balanced and full of character, I can see this Meursault offering 12-15 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted May 2016.

Pale, bright yellow. Closed on the nose, hinting at white peach, pear and a saline quality. A hint of minerality gives the wine energy but I wanted more concentration, verve and flesh. Slightly tart on the back end. Disappointing for premier cru--or is this wine simply in a sullen stage?

Another very light nose from this producer. Fairly broad on the palate but not that harmonious today. (JR)
