Tasting Notes and Scores

92 NM

The 2015 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes, matured in 25% new oak, needed a little coaxing from the glass. It eventually offers scents of citrus fruit, pine needles and hazelnut, but remains subtle and reserved. These aromatics don't want to come out and play (at least not today). The palate is clean and fresh on the entry. This is well balanced with hints of almond, dried orange peel and white pepper, gently building in the mouth but never getting too carried away on the controlled finish. Perhaps it will loosen its collar once in bottle? One upon which to keep an eye.

Lively aromas of white peach and lemon are lifted by a minty nuance. Quite brisk and tight for young Charmes but then these vines are in the upper portion of this large premier cru. Shows a strong lemony flavor complicated by subtle soil tones. Much firmer on the back end than the Puligny-Montrachet Les Champs Gains; the longest and most energetic of these 2015s to this point by a wide margin, with the citrus quality giving the finish very good lift.
