Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2014 Vosne Romanée 1er Cru les Beaux Monts Vieilles Vignes has a tightly knit bouquet with blackcurrant pastilles, iris and dark cherries. The palate is medium-bodied with good structure; it is fleshy in the mouth with pure red cherry and raspberry coulis notes, confit-like, nicely balanced with a smooth and quite seductive finish that lingers in the mouth. What a beautiful Vosne-Romanée -- one of Bruno's best this year.

(from clay-based soil with rocks and sand; this south/southeast-facing parcel receives less strong afternoon sun than the Brûlées and also enjoys the cooling influence of being situated in a combe): Dark red with a ruby tinge. Aromas of cherry, gingerbread and flowers are perfumed and sweet. Suave on entry, showing terrific intensity and lift to its fine-grained flavors of sweet red berries and spices, then a bit more muscular and bracing on the back half. A fruit bomb with terrific spine and shape. Finishes fresh and firm, with rather masculine tannins. This should evolve gracefully.

Light bright cherry red. Red-fruited but perhaps a touch of cedar. Firmer structure than the Chambolle Combe d’Orveaux but tannins are finely polished and accessible. Deep, generous and still super-fresh. (JH)
