The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Fonteny 1er Cru is the first vintage where they pruned the vines early in the season to reduce yields. The new oak is quite evident on the nose at this early stage, although that should be integrated with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannins, blackberry and boysenberry fruit, quite fresh and silky smooth in texture. Moderate length here, with a rather spicy finish. Give this 2-3 years in bottle.
