Tasting Notes and Scores
There are four barrels of the maiden 2019 Corton Le Rognet Grand Cru that is under Clerget’s négociant label, matured with 40% whole bunches and 20% new oak. This has a very rich and almost decadent bouquet with plush kirsch and cassis aromas that threaten to overwhelm the senses. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded red fruit, sweet and candied with a powerful, one might say, "unsubtle" finish. This has the highest alcohol of Clerget’s range at 14.1° abv as he said that at the moment he is just getting familiarised with the vineyard.

Bought grapes in 2019 and in 2020 he bought the vineyard. Organic for a long time. Four barrels, of which one was new. 40% whole bunch. The last grapes to be picked. Yes, the vines were expensive but cheaper than Corton-Charlemagne. Cask sample. More of that intensity on the nose! Bright red-cherry fruit, with real energy and punch. (JR)
