In the 17th century, the monk Dom Pérignon nurtured an ambition to create “the best wine in the world”. Three centuries later, Dom Pérignon perpetuates this exceptional artisan’s vision, reinventing itself each vintage to have a unique style and identity, even going as far as not declaring a vintage. Born from an exceptionally unique year, Dom Pérignon 2015 reveals a wine with tension, precision, and structure. 2015 was an atypical year marked by drought, intense heat, and sunlight – the highly unusual summer being a distinctive character with the hottest August in 45 years. Picking at Dom Pérignon began on September 7th, a few days after the first ripe grape clusters were picked in Champagne. The 2015 vintage shares multiple common denominators with the 2003 vintage, a year when the climate reached a tipping point in Champagne. Although the two vintages share certain extreme traits, first and foremost the enduring presence of the sun, the 2015’s distinguishing characteristics are, as described by Yohan Castaing, its “structural delicate austerity” and “remarkably linear and well-defined style”. Ethereal, with intricate acidity and phenolic power, the 2015 packs serious energy – the perfect balance between the expression of Dom Pérignon and the expression of the vintage itself.
