Tasting Notes and Scores
A perfect Blanc de Blancs and a “decent†first try by the Krug family. The nose lives more on finesse than richness. Juicy Cox's Orange apples, Cointreau, and acacia honey raise high expectations for the taste, and they are triumphantly met. There is a wonderfully exotic richness that reminds me of Taittinger Comtes de Champagne, but with an aftertaste even richer in glycerol honey sweetness. One of the true milestones of wine history.

Brilliantly crafted by Henri Krug this remains a near perfect blanc de blancs. The ultra-refined nose leans more to finesse than richness with juicy Cox's apples, Cointreau, and acacia honey. In the mouth is a wonderfully exotic nut oil richness allied to a stunning honeyed sweetness. Best of all, it finishes so vibrant, fresh and balanced. A true milestone in wine history.

The 1979 Krug Clos du Mesnil is one of my all-time favorites. It boasts mind-blowing intensity in its dazzling layers of mineral-infused fruit. At times the 1979 comes across as intensely pointed and focused, but it changes constantly in the glass, showing elements of richness and creaminess as well. There is fabulous depth and purity in the 1979, not to mention an insanely beautiful, palate-staining finish. The 1979 was picked on October 9th, one of the latest harvests on record for the Clos.
