Tasting Notes and Scores

Based on the regular Clos des Goisses but blended with a certain percentage of red Pinot Noir from the same vineyard, the 2007 Clos des Goisses Just Rosé Brut has a lovely apricot color and shows a beautifully precise and fruity nose with chalky-mineral notes on the nose. On the palate, this is a highly elegant, refined and complex Rosé with good texture and a very long and complex but also refined finish. Disgorged November 2017. 2,039 bottles made. Tasted April 2018. - Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate #237, June 2018

Disgorged in November 2017, the 2007 Extra Brut Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé continues to show brilliantly, unwinding in the glass with an attractive bouquet that mingles notes of red berries, cherries and apple with nuances of cut flowers, fresh bread and spices, without the riper, tropical top notes found in the 2008. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, satiny textured and multidimensional, with extraordinary concentration, an incisive spine of acidity and a long, chalky finish. Charles Philipponnat adds that he used to think rosé aged faster, but he has come to believe that red wine phenolics "frame" the wine and in fact increase its potential longevity. Since Clos des Goisses is already arguably Champagne's longest-lived wine, who knows how far the 2007 will go.

The 2007 Clos des Juste Rosé is aromatically quite pretty, but much less available on the palate. Cranberry, orange peel, mint and rose petal emerge gradually, but the 2007 really needs time in bottle to allow the full breadth of its exotic personality to fully expressive. Even at this early stage, though, the 2007 is terrific. The Juste Rosé is based on the same blend as the Clos des Goisses Blanc (55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay), with an addition of 6% still Pinot.
