This is a deep and profound 2002 with such fine bubbles that have the texture of fine silk. Full body. Extremely dense and compact. Just rolls over your palate. Superb quality and satisfaction, after all this time. Drink now. September 2019.

A classical Pol character on the nose. Lovely elegance, rich secondary aromas - so enticing. Fresh citrus notes wrapped up by nutty, smokey toasted brioche. Rich, round mouthfeel with great structure and balance... a hallmark of the vintage. Lovely length. Excellent!

Pol Roger's 2002 Brut Vintage is showing beautifully, bursting from the glass with an expressive bouquet of confit lemon and pear mingled with nuances of brioche, wheat toast, honeycomb and dried white flowers. Full-bodied, broad and textural, this is a rich, vinous Champagne that's ample and complex, underpinned by lively acids and concluding with a long, saline finish.

White flowers, lemon, slate and chamomile are some of the notes that burst from the glass in Pol Roger's 2002 Brut Blanc de Blancs Extra Cuvee de Reserve. A bright, tightly coiled wine, the 2002 comes across as quite fresh and vibrant, especially within the context of the year. Sweet floral and minty notes run through the precise, crystalline finish. Although the 2002 is absolutely delicious today, am I intrigued to see how it might age. It is utterly brilliant today.

Magnum . Mid straw with an extremely fine bead. Lovely, mature but not old nose. Really zesty with toffee Granny Smith notes and just a hint of apple peel. Whistle-clean with an undertow of something. The word ambergris came to mind and when I looked it up, it did indeed seem appropriate (I especially liked the reference to old churches). Really compact and impressive. (JR)
