Tasting Notes and Scores
Gaston Huet of the Domaine le Haut Lieu passed away not too long ago but his legacy lives on through the numerous magnificent wines he and his estate produced. Fashioned by his son-in-law Noël Pinguet, the 1989 Vouvray Moelleux Cuvée Constance is one of the finest Vouvrays I've ever tasted, standing neck and neck with Huet's glorious 1947s and the 1997 Cuvée Constance. Delicate notes of smoky botrytis can be found amongst the lemongrass, apricot, yellow plum, and white peach aromas. Unbelievably complex and balanced, it gracefully delivers a body-slam to everything that came before it, announcing that splendor has arrived. One cannot help but smile when experiencing a wine of this magnitude: it is ethereal, yet dominating; real and present, yet from another world. What is perfection? Something so grandiose, so awe-inspiring that you cannot believe it is of this world. This jewel can easily be cellared for another 20-30 years.
