Ruby-red. Aromas of raspberry, cherry liqueur, tar, espresso and flowers. Fat, rich and ripe, with moderately concentrated red fruit flavors complicated by leather. But currently seems a bit high in alcohol, and less delineated than the 2000. The yield here was about 41 hectoliters per hectare, higher than that of 2000.

The 1999 Ermitage La Sizeranne is an elegant, light-styled offering. The color is deep ruby, and the wine offers notes of plums, figs, cassis, and that inky aroma that emerges occasionally in Hermitage.
