Tasting Notes and Scores
Just starting to take on some secondary notes now, a touch of barley sugar and lanolin. Very full-bodied, but athletic - there's no excess fat here. Great energy and vibrancy. So complex already, a quintessential Hermitage. Long finish, the mango and quince fruit team together well with the oak, neither dominating. Incredible length, perfectly balanced, a perfect reflection of the Hill in the glass. Exultant. You can drink this now, and it's incredible. In theory it will improve somehow. I would drink from 2025 onwards.

White peach, grilled hazelnuts and plenty of yellow citrus fruits with dried meadow flowers. The palate has impressive glycerol-laden texture. Lemon and lime citrus ride on a smooth and expansive mid-palate. Peach and peach skin flavors and a sapid, taut finish. A real masterpiece.

This starts strong, with warm ganache, steeped fig and crushed blackberry flavors, then gains steam, picking up smoldering charcoal, bay leaf and juniper accents as the wine drives and expands through the finish. Offers a long echo of graphite, with the fruit keeping pace. Very impressive for the vintage. JM

Glass-staining ruby. Potent aromas of fresh black and blue fruits, licorice, spicecake and candied flowers on the deeply perfumed nose. Fleshy, seamless and expansive on the palate, offering vivacious blackberry, cherry, boysenberry and allspice flavors that deepen and spread out slowly on the back half. Closes on a minerally note, delivering building tannins, superb dark-fruit-driven persistence and lingering spiciness. Josh Raynolds

Looking at the 2014 reds, the 2014 Hermitage is resting as a final blend and is scheduled to be bottled early next year. It has a serious floral character as well as the classic minerality imparted from the Bessards lieu-dit (which makes up the bulk of the cuvée), gorgeous depth of fruit, medium to full-bodied richness and fine, polished tannin. Like most 2014s, it will be approachable at an early age, but this beauty has class and will evolve gracefully.

Lots going on here on the nose, wet hay, straw and popcorn with unripe melon and apricot skin. Plenty of oak still on the palate, real intensity of fruit and concentration, lanolin and wet wool on the long toasty finish. Rich and full – still resolving. Long, fine and still very, very young – drinking well but still a baby. (AC)
