Like many 2001 northern Rhones in this vintage of tremendous aromatics - although perhaps not with the power and concentration of such great years as 1999 and 2003 - beautiful bouquets are followed by wines with gorgeous richness, tremendous definition, and good, fresh, lively acidity. The 2001 Chateau d'Ampuis shows good weight, full-bodied, concentrated flavors, zesty acidity, and a tremendously evolved, perfumed style that is already showing well. A little bit of Viognier is incorporated into this cuvee, and the result in 2001 is a brilliant wine with great aromatics and the potential for up to 15 years of aging.
