Tasting Notes and Scores
Incredible concentration and every bit as much finesse. The forest berry notes are right off the scale, just like the stony minerality, which some may find too much, but for me is totally exciting. The drive and energy at the finish must be experienced to be believed. Decades of aging potential. From vineyards planted in 1926 by the winemaker's grandfather in the Les Greffieux and Le Meal sections of the hill of Hermitage. Best from 2027.

A strong candidate for the title of the wine of the vintage, the 2022 Hermitage Le Greal is gorgeous. Evoking a perfumed, complex and vibrant bouquet of blackberry, rose petal, violet, flowers and dark cherries mingled with lovely notes of lead pencil, it's suave and sappy, complete and deep, with a multidimensional core of fruit and beautifully refined tannins enhanced by an energetic mid-palate that segues into a long, perfumed and ethereal finish due to the use of whole bunches. Truly gorgeous. It should gain raciness with age. Drink Date 2028-2055.

Dark and brooding, the 2022 Hermitage Le Gréal radiates notes of ripe black cherry, blackberry, dried violet, licorice, cedar and a sprinkle of black pepper. Wafts of graphite add a ferrous touch. Firmly built like a skyscraper, the full-bodied 2022 is a deeply concentrated red Hermitage, yet maintains spot-on balance through vivid freshness, which can partially be traced back to using 100% whole clusters during fermentation. Winding down with flawless elegance on the savory finish, the 2022 requires extended bottle aging before unleashing its full potential. Only 3,600 bottles were produced. Drinking Window 2032-2042.

Darkly coloured. Wonderful nose – very Hermitage in its meaty, smoky, roasted notes. Surprisingly fresh and lively for such a hot and dry vintage. Powerful, with quite marked acidity and robust, slightly fibrous tannins that will take time to soften. The finish is long with great vitality, this is a very genuine, authentic Hermitage and doesn't even feel like it comes from a hot vintage. There is a slight green note to the tannins, which arguably aren't as elegant as in some years, but it's a wine that speaks strongly of terroir. From lieux-dits Le Méal and Les Greffieux. 7% Marsanne and Roussanne coplanted with the Syrah in Le Méal. Drinking Window 2040-2062.
