Brutally tannic on this occasion, the 2017 Gigondas La Tour Sarrasine does have plenty of fruit, so it could potentially improve over the course of its élevage, which normally runs for two years in tank. A blend of 70% Grenache and 15% each Mourvèdre and Syrah, it's full-bodied and richly concentrated, with notes of cherries and stone fruit.

70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 15% Syrah. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Understated, compact nose with black cherry and furry, fine tannins. Glossy fruit on the palate, with some black-olive savoury character to finish. (RH)
