Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2017 Gigondas Ventabren must surely be one of the wines of the vintage. A blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Cinsault (note: that is different from the 10% Mourvèdre I reported last year), it boasts intense floral aromas, bold raspberries and even exotic notes of ripe stone fruit. Full-bodied, supple and creamy, this is ripe, long and mouthwatering, picking up a bit of peppery spice on the finish. Already approachable, it should continue to drink well for a decade or more.

Bright magenta. An expansive bouquet evokes an array of red/blue fruits, baking spices and potpourri. A vibrant mineral nuance emerges with air. Stains the palate with sweet raspberry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors that show a suave blend of depth and energy. Discreet tannins make a late appearance and add framework to persistent blue fruit and floral notes. This is a deceptively forward wine and I wouldn't be surprised to see it start to shut down soon.
