Lurid violet color. Assertive aromas of black raspberry, cherry liqueur, licorice and potpourri, with a bright mineral nuance adding lift. Seamless, pliant and broad on the palate, offering energetic red/blue fruit, spicecake and violet pastille flavors that are complemented by a smoky bacon quality. Lively and sharply delineated in style, finishing with fine-grained, slow-building tannins and strong, mineral- and floral-driven persistence.

95% Syrah, 5% Viognier. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Vivid black fruit with a lovely bramble note to it, and a bit of scrubby herbal complexity too. Crunchy structure with fresh acid and good, persistent black fruit through to the finish. Has both the structure and concentration to develop well. (RH)

Light youthful purple. Attractive aromatically with lovely crushed violet and floral notes with a creamy edge. A blend of sweet and savoury with layered tannins and good intensity of dark fruit and florality. The acidity is well judged and keeps the wine lively and fresh. A long focused finish. (AC)
