The 1949 Rivesaltes from Domaine Prieuré de Monastir del Camp has a refined bouquet with gorgeous mandarin, nougat, punnet of strawberry and quince aromas that together show wonderful definition and detail. The palate is viscous with impressive depth. Very honeyed, more so than other vintages, it displays superb volume on the sandalwood-tinged finish. This should last for years. Tasted with Philippe Gayral.

Bottled 2013 (in effect a late bottled vintage). 100% Grenache Noir and a blend of different barrels. Walnuts on the nose. Very sweet and round. Drying a little bit with lots of vitality. Still racy. Clean. (JR)
