Tasting Notes and Scores
What Lauer refers to laughingly as his “Petit Ayl” originates in the Scheidterberg rather than the Ayler Kupp proper. (He has jocularly nicknamed other 2018 Auslesen “Grand Ayl” and “Peche Blanc.”) Apple and quince dominate on both the nose and the polished, glossy palate, exhibiting at once jellied and fresh fruit aspects. The finish is single-mindedly fruity and decidedly sweet, but luscious and refreshingly juicy, animating and sustained. Hard to resist... and perhaps it will gain some complexity with time in bottle.
