Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2018 Gimmeldinger Biengarten Spätburgunder offers a very intense and toasty yet elegant, refined and aromatic bouquet of ripe red and dark cherries and just-ripe blackberries intermixed with notes of juniper, cloves and heavy-toasted oak aromas that you either like or you don't. Round and silky on the palate, this is a smooth and intense yet somewhat sweetish and all-too-charming Pinot at this early stage. The wine is generous and sweet and clearly a reflection of the warm and sunny vintage. The tannins are predominantly from the oak barrels, of which 40% were new. Tasted shortly after the bottling in April 2020.
