Conterno's 2010 Barolo Cicala boasts razor-sharp minerality and acidity in support of the beautifully delineated, resonant fruit. This shows more roses and mineral character than Colonnello. Full body with a beautiful round mouthfeel and a depth of fruit. A chewy, rich wine for the vintage. Better in 2015.

Good bright, deep red with ruby highlights. Shy, musky aromas of black fruits, minerals, chocolate, spices, licorice and violet pastille. Concentrated, densely packed and sweet but tight and closed; distinctly vertical in shape today. More monolithic than the Colonnello but boasts terrific definition and lift. The youthfully firm tannins will require extended aging.

Monforte d’Alba. Very concentrated ruby. Looks unfiltered. Opulent fruit framed by oak. Hugely attractive while still showing plenty of Nebbiolo character. Great balance and weight. Tannic but backed up by generous fruit. Very long and plain delicious. (WS)
