Tasting Notes and Scores

94 JS

Very fresh and vibrant with flowers and oranges buttressing the ripe berry character. Full-bodied, chewy and structured with a rich and powerful finish. Beautiful intensity at the end. Drink from 2022.

The Brovia 2015 Barolo Brea Vigna Ca' Mia offers good balance and an authentic representation of the vintage. You can sense some of the heat of the growing season here, thanks to the wine's open and accessible persona; it enters the palate with softness and elegance. This was the first of the single-vineyard wines from Brovia released this year that I tasted in a flight meant to increase in intensity.

Serralunga d’Alba. Lustrous mid ruby. Very compact and closed on the nose. Noble and backward with a peppery touch while with aeration it shows brooding depth. Slumbering complexity with hints of iron. Austere but perfectly balanced palate with great depth of cherry fruit, but very slow to open up and with persistent, underlying grainy stalky tannins and a perfect dose of sappy acidity on a long, savoury cherry finish. This will need time, but its build and structure nears perfection. (WS)
