Within the context of this set of new releases from Comm. G.B. Burlotto, this wine stands far apart. The 2018 Barolo Monvigliero is linear and light, but it also shows good fruit weight. This is exactly the classic duality of Monvigliero (a village that traditionally incorporates whole clusters in fermentation). Spice, cola, licorice, grilled herb and dried cherry appear to lift over a fine and delicately tapered mouthfeel.

Verduno. 100% whole bunch and 50 days of skin maceration. Just mid ruby. Amazing, captivating spicy floral perfumed nose, almost exotic, and a little exalted and seductive. Multi-layered and complex. A sensational palate of ripe raspberry and crunchy tannins and a long and succulent finish combined with almost ephemeral palate weight. (WS)

Very pale and pure. Positively Pinot-esque. Feather-light tannins on the finish became increasingly obvious with time. Tarry. Really gorgeous. (JR)
