Tasting Notes and Scores
Cogno's 2010 Barolo Ravera emerges from some of the oldest vineyards in the property. Dark red cherry, plum, menthol, licorice and smoke meld together in a sumptuous wine that impresses for its breadth and volume. At the same time, there is plenty of Ravera minerality supporting the fruit. The Ravera doesn't have the early appeal of the Cascina Nuova, rather it is a wine for the cellar. Hints of savory herb and floral notes with a faint suggestion of Chinato wrap around the finish.
Antonio Galloni
This is really aromatic, with fresh strawberries and flowers. Full body with ultra-fine tannins and a prolonged finish. It is so deep and thoughtful on the palate. Gorgeous.
James Suckling
Cherry and raspberry flavors mingle with earth, licorice and tar notes. This red cuts a broad swath, presenting a dense texture and muscular tannins, finishing fresh and delineated, with accents of leather and black tea. BS
Wine Spectator
The 2010 Barolo Ravera shows extreme elegance and precision with dark fruit, spice, dried tobacco, hazelnut and black truffle. The Ravera cru makes rich and powerful wines and Elvio Cogno has masterfully captured these territorial qualities. Drink: 2016-2028. ML
