Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2005 Barbaresco Asili is a jewel of a wine. I suppose the 2005 doesn't have the sweetness not finesse of the very best vintages, but it comes very, very close. The ineffable Asili perfume comes through beautifully in a sensual, complete Barbaresco that will thrill Giacosa fans. Rose petal, mint, plum and cinnamon are some of the many nuances that inform the silky, inviting finish.

Lovely fruit showing off ripe berries and sweet strawberries. Full and round with velvety tannins with a long rich finish. Delicious now but I suggest waiting until 2014 to get the most out of this wine.

Giacosa’s 2005 Barbaresco Asili is noticeably rounder, sweeter and denser than the Santo Stefano. It shows remarkable balance and harmony in an incredibly pure, graceful style. The tannins are so finessed and elegant it is hard to actually perceive them on the palate. Here too, the wine shows awesome inner balance and poise. Sweet raspberries, flowers, roses and spices are just some of the nuances that emerge from this incredibly delicious, promising Barbaresco. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2025
