Tasting Notes and Scores
The 1999 Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto is a knock out. Dark red cherry, plum, incense and orange peel are all very much alive in the glass. The 1999 Rocche is rich, sensual and powerful to the core, with fabulous depth, explosive fruit and captivating intensity. Because of its greater power and richness, the tannins are nearly buried by the fruit. Here, too, the 1999 has moved on from its primary stage, but it is not mature, either. Ideally, readers should wait another few years until the 1999 Rocche enters the next stage of its life. I have had the 1999 Rocche on many occasions. It has always been expressive, profound and moving.

Darker and deeper in color than the Falletto, even more potent and penetrating on the nose, explosive on the palate with a medley of sweet fruit, licorice, mint, chocolate, and tar, the full-throttle 1999 Barolo Rocche di Falletto, tightly wound but oh so sumptuous and rich on the finish and aftertaste, rivals the legendary 1996 Barolo Falletto Riserva. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2035. (Daniel Thomases)
Wine Advocate
Offers amazing aromas of blueberry and raspberry, with hints of strawberry tart. Full-bodied, showing chewy, powerful tannins and plenty of fruit. A powerful, youthful, slightly austere wine, with a great future. Tasted from magnum.--'99 Piedmont blind retrospective (2009). Best after 2011. 950 cases made. (James Suckling)
