Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2012 Barolo Pira is deep, dense and voluptuous, especially for the vintage. There is plenty of Roagna structure, but the tannins are nearly buried by the sheer density of the fruit. Sweet herbs, tobacco, underbrush, menthol and licorice give the Pira a wild, unrestrained side that I personally find hugely appealing. If there is one wine readers should not miss in this set of new releases, the 2012 Pira is it. What a wine!

Palish ruby. Enticing, spicy, cherry fruit and elegant, tightly knit fruit on the palate. Lightness of touch paired with concentration and fine persistent tannins all the way through. Can already be approached, but with plenty of future. Drink: 2018 – 2028
