Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2017 Barolo Aleste is a dark, ample wine. Dark cherry, plum, new leather, spice and licorice bring out darker tones of Nebbiolo. All the natural power of these parcels come through effortlessly. Best of all, the 2017 will drink well with minimal cellaring.

Opulent and very sexy with perfume, cedar, dried flowers and dried strawberries and just a hint of nutmeg. It’s medium-to full-bodied with round and finely velvety tannins and a flavorful finish. So seductive. Drink after 2025.
James Suckling
Fragrant and delicious, this gorgeous wine opens with inviting aromas of rose, sandalwood, camphor and perfumed berry alongside whiffs of truffle and French oak. The full-bodied palate combines elegance and structure, featuring ripe Morello cherry, crushed raspberry, licorice and a dollop of vanilla alongside firm, refined tannins. It's already tempting but hold for more complexity. Drink 2024–2032.

Luminous ruby-red. Blood orange, crushed raspberry, iron, and tobacco on the deep nose. Enters rich and dense with sweet fleshy red fruit and mineral flavours, then mountingly mouthcoating and long, with youthfully tough tannins. Built to age, this will need plenty of time in a good cellar and about a day’s worth of decanting ahead should you choose to drink it before its tenth birthday. First made in the 1990s vintage from different vineyards than those used today, in the 2017 vintage, the vineyard sources for Le Vigne were the vineyard districts of Baudana, Villero, Vignane and Merli, but that mix will change again with the 2019 vintage when grapes from Le Coste di Monforte vineyard district will join the fold. Drinking window: 2028-2042. Ian D'Agata Terroirsense.com

Balsamic aromas and flavors of mint, eucalyptus and sage dominate the cherry and berry notes in this linear red. There is a contradiction and tension now between its graceful entry and dense, muscular finish. Nonetheless, this is long and finds an equilibrium in the end. Best from 2025 through 2043. 150 cases imported. — BS
