Tasting Notes and Scores
Scavino's 2010 Barolo is supple and open, even in this vintage. Sweet red cherries, savory herbs, tobacco and mint meld together in an approachable Barolo that will drink well pretty much right out of the gate. The 2010 is all about polish, finesse and delicacy. Sweet spices and crushed flowers meld into the expressive finish. The main vineyard sites are Rocche Mariondino, Vignolo, Altenasso, Terlo, Vignano and San Bernardo. The Scavino Barolo is a wonderful lens through which to get an early sense of the vintage.

Extremely fruity and intense with blueberry, strawberry and hints of cedar aroma. Full body, very tannic and rich with loads of fruit. Fresh finish. Starting to close up now. Try in 2016 when the wine will be more open and softer.

The 2010 Barolo is sourced from five or six vineyards in Castiglione Falletto and Barolo. This is a gorgeous wine with a silky entry and loads of elegant fruit, cassis, licorice, tar and cola. There’s a real sense of energy and zest in the mouth that is not just due to the freshness of the acidity. It comes from the pristine quality of fruit in 2010. Drink: 2016-2028. (Monica Larner)

Good bright medium red. Pure, high-pitched aromas of blackberry, cassis, licorice, violet, menthol and pepper. Supple but a bit youthfully reduced, showing lovely vinosity to its medium-bodied dark fruit, licorice and floral flavors. Much juicier and less evolved than the 2009 version. Finishes with substantial suave tannins that reach the front teeth.
