Full, deep red. Superripe, sappy aromas of dark cherry and mocha, with suggestions of exotic fruits. Silky but tight, even a bit withdrawn. Today the wine's strong tannins cut off the fruit. Finishes with intriguing notes of marzipan and dried flowers.

Displays blueberry and flowers, offering hints of chocolate and berry on the nose. Full-bodied, with soft, silky tannins and lots of fruit, turning hot.—'99 Piedmont blind retrospective (2009). Best after 2011. 1,945 cases made. (James Suckling)
