The 2014 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata is a bit more extracted than the other wines in this range. There is plenty of depth and richness, but some of that has been achieved with a slight loss of nuance, and that is a shame, because Rocche dell'Annunziata is a site that is all about detail. The slightly higher use of French oak barriques here harks back to the day when growers gave what they thought was their best wine the most new oak. The reality is that this wine does not need any makeup. With a lighter touch in fermentation and less new oak, the Rocche could be even better.
