Tasting Notes and Scores
The Shiraz-dominated nose (87%) is intense, ripe and brooding with blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis and cedar spice. The Cabernet (13%) really shows itself in the depth of colour and touch of fresh mint alongside that textbook blackcurrant character. The palate is fresh, vibrant and balanced with good structure driven as much by the acidity as by the tannin – not unlike a classical Bordeaux – helped by a combination of 50% new and 50% pre-used oak. The wood character is nicely integrated with the dark fruit and herb notes making a wine of pleasing complexity. Satisfying, well-made, and quite European in style with an extra ‘whoosh’ of ripe fruit. Drink over the next 3-10 years.
4.5* John Platter, South Africa’s Wine Guide “Elegant & composed red blend, continues serious vein noted in 2011 & 2009; Shiraz component upped to 87% with Cab. Unforced & subtly oaked, with exotic & enticing cardamom overlay.”
