Despite the irregular weather, this remains a profound wine. Vivid with complex aromatics, in the mouth it is a blend of balsamic characters with ripe fruits. Refined and elegant with a salty edge. Very long, still. Once more, the odd-numbered vintages outshine the evens. Cold spring with average to high rainfall, ‘very irregular’ summer with rain, and an irregular harvest at normal dates. Matured 12 months in wooden tanks, 24 months in 576-litre tanks, one year in new casks, then more than six years in old casks before bottling. The 1973 Único was quite a surprise, lively, even better than the 1975, with more balance. The blend this year was 60% Tinto Fino, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot, Malbec and the white Albillo Mayor.
