Tasting Notes and Scores
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Altagracia has slightly muted black cherries, crushed black plums and cassis with hints of licorice, black soil and cracked pepper plus a waft of tapenade. Medium to full-bodied, rich and expressive in the mouth, it delivers a lot of layers and wonderfully fine tannins, finishing long and earthy.

The second wine is still called Altagracia and represents a Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine with a touch of Cabernet Franc that is culled out as insufficient for what is included in their flagship Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Altagracia, as one might expect, is seamless, with gobs of fruit, loads of blackcurrant and blackberry notes, a touch of floral notes, medium to full body and easygoing silky tannin. It is a luscious, seductive style of wine to drink in its first 12-15 years of life.

Araujo Estate was renamed Eisele Vineyard Estate in 2016. 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Eisele’s second wine, named after Bart Araujo’s grandmother. Deep blackish crimson.Interesting, savoury notes on the nose – appetising. Lots of sweetness on palate entry and then balsam notes on the end. Quite racy and accessible – even pretty. French-influenced (?) dry finish and still some tannins to be resolved. Not a ridiculous price…? (JR)
