Bright full ruby. Expressive nose offers black raspberry, mocha and coffee. Lush yet high-pitched on the palate, with fruit-driven flavors of blueberry, blackberry, licorice and minerals. Showing superb fruit concentration, but with its soil tones and layered texture temporarily suppressed by the recent racking. Very pure and vibrant wine, finishing with substantial ripe tannins.

I tasted the blend that was due to be bottled last November and was struck by the delicacy of the winemaking, or do I mean the wine? Very perfumed and subtle. Gentle in texture. Very fresh, very persistent with a finish that was defiantly dry rather than sweet. There was a reference to 'Matt's Pinot Noir-like winemaking' ... Impressive and distinctive.  Not the standard Napa Valley recipe. (JR)
