BOND is the single-vineyard project from Bill Harlan, the Napa Valley legend behind Harlan Estate. The enduring vision at BOND is to create a portfolio of wines that are diverse in their geographic representation and Grand Cru in quality, all under the umbrella of one philosophy, one team, and one mark. Sourced fromcarefully selected hillside estates, the Cabernet Sauvignon wines of BOND vividly demonstrate the range of Napa Valley’s finest terroirs. From the more than eighty vineyards the Harlan group have worked with over the past quarter of a century, they have slowly and vigilantly selected five sites; these wines show the sheer diversity of Napa’s complex terroir and the true skill of Harlan’s winegrowing team.

Bottled in early 2018, the 2015 Vecina is deep garnet-purple in color, with baked blackberries, black cherries and blackcurrant cordial aromas that leap from the glass with nuances of roses, pencil lead, menthol and mocha. The palate is full-bodied, very fine and incredibly seductive with a solid frame supporting the generous layers, finishing long and exotic.

This wine makes an immediate impression on the nose, which is both perfumed and opulent, with rich spicy oak aromas. That's echoed on the palate too, which is immensely concentrated and sustained by firm ripe tannins. There's enough tangy acidity to keep it fresh and balanced while also long and harmonious.

Part of the Bond estate and from the Spanish word for neighbour, Vecina is located directly south-east of the Bond winery. With volcanic, east-facing, terraced slopes in Oakville’s western foothills, this site receives both the morning sun and the fog. The first vintage of this property was 1999. Deep ruby colour. Sweet and plush on the nose, with plenty of cassis and baked spices providing ample intensity. The palate is silky, smooth and fine but has good acidity given the vintage. There is a little anise and fresh leather, adding an exotic touch to the fruit. Ripe, bordering on baked dark fruits dominate the mid palate. Plush and modern but not over the top, with a long, plump finish. (TP)

Also pure perfection in a glass, the 2015 Vecina comes from an east-facing site located not far from the Harlan Estate. It was previously a terraced vineyard but was replanted when they opted to remove the terraces 7-8 years ago. Totally thrilling notes of crème de cassis, lead pencil, barbecue, white chocolate, and spring flower notes all flow to a full-bodied, powerful wine that has building tannins, no sensation of weight, hints of background oak, and incredible intensity and length. It’s a true “wow” wine that could not be better. Don’t miss it!
