Tasting Notes and Scores
The powerful (14.1% alcohol), superb 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville (84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc) exhibits a complex, Pauillac-like nose of cedar, fruitcake, black currants, and spicy new oak. There is medium to full body, well-integrated sweet tannin and acidity, an opulent texture, and a layered, long finish. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2025. Tel. Full ruby color. Spicy, perfumed aromas of black raspberry, black cherry and licorice. Fat, lush and broad; a large-framed wine with impressive thickness and sweetness of fruit. Creamy, very fine tannins really spread out on the palate. A superb showcase for the appellation the Mondavis have done so much to define and promote.
