The impressive St Julien Leoville Las Cases 2021 has been released this morning at GBP 1950. This represents an 18% discount from the 2020 price.

As one might expect from a wine fashioned primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon and an impressive 15% Cabernet Franc, grown on the great Medoc gravels next to Chateau Latour, Las Cases have turned in a finessed, expressive 2021 which the critics have rated as one of the wines of the vintage. With a beautifully balanced 13.2% alcohol and great aromatic complexity – albeit with a 25% smaller release than in 2020 – it will certainly find fans as it has done with the vinous literati:

“One of the wines of the vintage, the 2021 Léoville Las Cases is reminiscent of a hypothetical blend of the 1999 and 1996—only better.” William Kelley

“Very impressive in terms of depth and backbone/grip… this is a cerebral Las-Cases that will demand patience. Then again, name me a vintage of Las-Cases that doesn't!” Neal Martin

This is a fleshy, bold wine with a sublime density of fruit, and yet it is the length that is most impressive.” Matthew Jukes

Also available is the estate’s consistently successful second wine, Le Petit Lion at GBP 588.

Antonio Galloni was a huge fan of this wine, declaring it to have “all the class and breadth of its bigger sibling, but in miniature.”
