Les Forts de Latour 2019

Of the second wines of the First Growths, Chateau Latour’s Les Forts stands as primus inter pares with a track record of exceptional wines that develop beautifully over decades. Coming principally from vineyards located further from the Gironde, just outside the estate’s L’Enclos vineyard, with the addition of some young vines from within, Les Forts is a remarkable Pauillac of itself even without the lustre of First Growth pedigree.

The 2019 growing season was warm, hot and long, interspersed by refreshing pockets of rain with the Merlot harvest mid-late September and the Cabernets end of September into the beginning of October. Les Forts is especially serious this year with structure, minerality and intensity that give the nod to its grander sibling and undoubtedly warrants a few years of cellar-time before starting to reveal its best colours. This is another brilliant wine from the Latour stable that you will be very happy to find in your cellar decades hence. It comes very much recommended.
