Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2020 Desmirail rolls out of the glass with expressive notes of raspberry coulis, warm cassis and ripe, juicy black cherries, followed by hints of wild mushrooms, pencil shavings and Marmite toast. The medium-bodied palate is soft and soft-spoken, featuring bags of red and black fruit preserves with just enough freshness, finishing savory.
The 2020 Desmirail offers ripe black cherries, black currants, iris and incense aromas on a relatively stricter bouquet compared to its fellow Margaux wines. Clean and precise, but it doesn’t want to muck around. The palate is also strict and linear on the entry, fresh acidity cutting through the black fruit laced with charcoal and touches of ash. Very well balanced, a little more austere than others, yet energetic and displaying wonderful tension. This is a marvelous Desmirail hewn in a classical style with a Pauillac-like finish. Superb.
A medium-to full-bodied red with blackberry, chocolate, walnut and spice character. Creamy and juicy tannins and a long, flavorful finish.
Full bottle 1,247 g. Cask sample. 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot.
Inky core like elderberry juice with purplish rim. Dark, ripe and a little charry on the nose. Black fruit and oaky aroma but not sweet. Fresh and scented on the palate, juicy even with the tight, dry tannin corset. Perhaps a little light in the middle but smooth on the finish. (JH)
The 2020 Desmirail is a gorgeous, promising wine. Silky tannins wrap around a core of inky red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, spice, menthol and mocha are all framed by discreet oak. Plush, sensual and inviting, Desmirail has so much to recommend it. Sweet floral accents and a kick of sweet spice brighten up the finish. This is very nicely done.
Smoke, tobacco, cigar box, earth, leaf and currant scents bring you to a savory, fresh, bright, chewy core of red fruits and dusty tannins. Give this a few years of aging and it could show better. 89-91
Another terrific Margaux in the appellation, the 2020 Château Desmirail boasts loads of black raspberry and darker berry fruits as well as a slightly modern feel in its classy oak, chocolate, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. Broad and medium-bodied, with velvety tannins as well as outstanding length, it should certainly be an outstanding wine and have 15+ years of longevity, if not more.

Smoked oak on the nose. This shows elegant fruits, with a silky texture, and a deftness to the winemaking. It dips through the mid palate however and could do with a little more generosity to the fruits to really carry off its intention. A yield of 40hl/ha. Tasted twice.
