The 2020 Haut Bergey Blanc has quite a savory nose of baking bread, toasted almonds and allspice, giving way to a core of apple pie and preserved peaches with a hint of fresh ginger. The medium-bodied palate is refreshing with soft-spoken savory flavors expressing a more oxidative style, finishing with a spicy kick. From the style, I would guess this is a wine made with little or no sulfur additions (thus far). It seems to be progressing nicely, without overt faults or oxidation. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.
Real clarity and freshness to this with lemon, green-apple, mineral and stone undertones. It’s medium-to full-bodied with lovely, creamy texture and energy. From biodynamically grown grapes. Demeter certification.
Full bottle 1,235 g. Cask sample taken way back on 2 April. 100% Sauvignon Blanc (even though there is 20% Sémillon in the vineyard). Organic certification. Aged for a full 21 months in 400-litre barrels on lees.
Extremely distinctive nose – like it or loathe it. Lots of wildness here, and even something a bit like a Riesling Grosses Gewächs. I think it's great to have something outside the norm. Wild flowers and other wild flavours. I hope this is not to be too toned down before bottling. Really fascinating and extremely long. This doesn't seem to have suffered from having been taken so long ago from the barrel.
A touch of almond, crisp lemon and waxy grapefruit scents create the perfume. On the palate the wine is sweet, juicy, lush and fresh with a honeyed lemon and grassy character in the finish. 91

White flowers and straw, touches of grapefruit, very definitely a Sauvignon Blanc nose, touches of gunflint, cheerful and easy to recommend. A yield of 20hl/ha, organic certified. 400l oak barrels for ageing on the lees.
