Focused and poised with vivid aromas and defined flavours. Intricate tannic structure, with mineral linearity. Juicy plum and black cherry rest on a refreshing layer of pomegranate, red apple peel and blood orange zest. Graphite, bitter chocolate, fig leaf and capsicum nuances add savoury depth and broody intrigue. Persistent finish with sweet spice and smoky edges.

The 2014 Viñedo Chadwick is their flagship pure Cabernet Sauvignon from the appellation Puente Alto in Maipo cropped from a low yielding year as the result of some frosts in September. The vines were planted in 1992 on alluvial soils with clay with a high content of stones. It has moderate alcohol and very good freshness and acidity and nicely integrated oak after the malolactic and 22 months in 75% new barriques. They did a super selection here and ended up producing almost half of the bottles they used to produce. The result is a more elegant and finer version of this bottling. A classical Maipo Cabernet with unusual elegance. 5,642 bottles were filled in February 2016.

The early frost of October 2013 set the tone for a year of low yields that was also a little cooler than average. The resulting 2014 Viñedo Chadwick is a more concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon than usual, and was aged for 22 months in 75% new French barrels. The aromatic profile features red fruit, herbs and hints of blackcurrant, oak and dark fruit. In the mouth, it’s juicy with accomplished freshness, intense flavor and a fruity kick later on. Will grow more profound and complex with time in the bottle.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon. TA 5.94 g/l, pH 3.52, RS 2.38 g/l. Low yields due to frosts in mid September followed by a warm spring meant an earlier than usual harvest which started on 18 March. The grapes were hand harvested and sorted by hand. Stainless-steel fermentation, three pumpovers per day. Total maceration time ranged from 23–40 days. Aged for 22 months in French oak barrels (75% new). Very strong fruit and terroir expression. Intense yet relaxed. Still quite youthful and tight but with a nod to new wave somehow (no excess ripeness or oak). Very appetising and quite different from the earlier vintages, though at this stage the cassis fruit rather dominates the minerally palate. (JR)
