Chateau La Conseillante scarcely needs an introduction. A family estate, it has been under the ownership of the Nicolas family for 151 years. Situated on the famous plateau of Pomerol, it spans 12ha with the estate property remaining unchanged since 1753, besides a small addition in 2014 of a tiny parcel call La Gravette (bordering Vieux Chateau Certan).
The style of La Conseillante is not lacking in hedonistic Pomerol silkiness, yet always maintains a sense of restraint and freshness. In recent weeks both the 2019 and 2020 vintages have taken up a lot of airtime in Bordeaux circles, and rightly so. These are both great vintages for the long-haul. At Bordeaux Index we also love to find the wines that are best to drink right now. Of the run of vintages from 2015-2021, while other vintages might be quite closed, 2017 is the vintage giving a lot of drinking pleasure today. These are such charming wines, with open-knit tannins which are starting to reach their stride. The 2017 Chateau La Conseillante is quite simply addictive and bursting with rich cherry flavours. Keep the other recent vintages in your cellar and open the 2017s tonight!
