Tasting Notes and Scores

Chewy and dense red with licorice, blackberry and dark-chocolate character. Full body and a tight and firm texture. Shows lovely length, too. - March 2017

The 2016 La Fleur de Boüard is blended of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and is a little youthfully reticent to begin, giving way to provocative crushed rocks, tilled soil, mossy bark and cigar box scents over a core of blueberry compote, black raspberries and blackberry pie with a waft of dried herbs. Medium to full-bodied, the earth-laced palate is positively charged with energy, framed by very fine-grained tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing on a lingering mineral note.

The 2016 La Fleur de Bouard has a generous bouquet with ample black cherry and cassis scents, with a touch of oyster shell and cold flint in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth and supple tannin. The tannins grip the mouth though it does not become too overpowering, while there is an attractive tobacco note that complements the dusky black fruit on the finish. A more classically styled Lalande-de-Pomerol from the de Boüards, it has more personality than previously vintages, and it will give 15-20 years of drinking pleasure. - Wine Advocate #230, April 2017

The 2016 La Fleur de Boüard is the best wine I have tasted from Hubert De Boüard's Lalande de Pomerol estate. Pliant, creamy and expansive - with notable depth - the 2016 is super-impressive. Raspberry jam, mocha, exotic spice and French oak all meld together. More importantly, though, the 2016 comes across as less heavy and extracted than in the past, with sweet tannins and terrific balance. Today, it is superb. Tasted two times. - vinous.com, April 2017

Very dark crimson. Bit of sandpaper on the nose. Very rich and sweet. Almost over the top but there is freshness at the end. This is a strong statement! Drying and rather cool on the end. Drink 2023-2030. - jancisrobinson.com, April 2017
