Tasting Notes and Scores

89 NM

A soft, red cherry and mulberry-scented nose that could do with a little more vigour. A touch of lemongrass developing. The palate is full-bodied, chewy tannins, raspberry, cherry and cranberry fruit. Good persistent finish – succulent, vivacious, pretty and simply very pleasant. Tasted October 2007.

Neal Martin

87.5 ST

Perfumed, rather cool aromas of blackcurrant, licorice, minerals and menthol. Firm and fresh, with modest flesh but excellent acidity and cut. Lingering finish features firm tannins that are not dry.

An elegant, easy-going effort, the 2001 Haut-Batailley appears to have more in common with a southern Medoc than most Pauillacs. A deep ruby color and aromas of caramels, black currants, herbs, and oak are followed by a light to medium-bodied, friendly, easy quaffing red to enjoy over the next 7-8 years.

Sweet. Quite light and open. Gentle tannins, some acidity. Grainy tannins. Chewy and flirtatious. (JR)
