Tasting Notes and Scores

94 LP

Pale to medium lemon-gold color, the 2010 la Tour Blanche is a total spice bomb, featuring wonderfully redolent notes of nutmeg, coriander seed, cinnamon stick and powdered ginger with a core of pineapple upside-down cake, poached pears and bread dough. The palate is suitably rich and yet beautifully balanced, lending a refreshing, deceptively ethereal quality that will have you reaching for another irresistible glass. Yum!

Gorgeous apricot, ginger, green fig and honey flavors show lots of density, with a sweet, rich finish. A big one in the making. —J.M.

The La Tour Blanche 2010 has an outstanding bouquet with beautifully defined aromas of dried honey, peach skin, melted wax and butterscotch – linear, taut, and focused in keeping with the vintage. The palate is beautifully proportioned with that thread of acidity interwoven through the botrytized fruit. This is a Sauternes with volume and dimension and yet I am seeking more persistency on the finish, because it feels like the job is done too early. This is a good wine that dare I say, could have been even better with more ambition.

Sweet flowery nose with honeysuckle, white peach and candied lemon peel. This Sauternes is very sweet and well-structured on the palate with a good acidity and pure white fruit. Elegant and charming. Drink now or hold.

Bright, pale yellow-gold. Exotic aromas of apricot, kiwi and minerals, complicated by smoky botrytis. Very clean and focused in the mouth, with pure, penetrating orange marmalade and ripe citrus flavors lifted by minerals and saffron. Refined and elegant in its mouth feel and very long on the aftertaste. Extremely well done. Ian D'Agata

Freshly defined, rich middleweight; very sweet, round and flowing, with a delicious and fine purity of fruit, but without the projection and aromatic botrytis scope and complexity that this wine usually has at this level of richness; nice fruit length. Good.... but not its usual excitement. 2014-25+ [M. Schuster Bordeaux Mar/Apr 2011]

Tasted blind. Spicy, cedary nose. A little bit harsh if flavourful. Not fully melded between sweetness and acid. A bit gloopy in texture but super-intense in flavour. I usually like this wine a bit more than this and it was joint first favourite with Fargues in this group of tasters. (JH)
