Tasting Notes and Scores

93 JS

Very pretty with currants, chocolate and hints of cappuccino. Full body, with velvety tannins and a long delicious finish. This the best wine in years from here. Better in 2017.

This final blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc hit 13.5% natural alcohol. Never one of my favorite wines, the 2010 is certainly a major, if not dramatic, improvement. Deep, subtle, herbaceous black currant fruit, cedar and Christmas fruitcake jump from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, ripe, well-made wine, which displays some subtle oak as well as excellent ripeness, texture and length. It should drink well for at least 15 or more years. Drink: 2013 - 2028

This under-achieving estate, which is under the same management as Chateau Lilian Ladouys, seems to have made a huge step forward with this wine.

The 2010 Pedesclaux is the same blend as the 2009 and the first vintage where the extension to the vineyards came into play, though six hectares that were making poor grapes were excluded from the final blend. It has a superior bouquet compared to the 2009 in terms of precision and delineation, quite "airy" and floral, almost Margaux-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a little foursquare and more freshness here than the previous vintage with respectable tension on the finish that just lacks a little length in the context of the vintage. Drink this now and over the next 12-15 years. Tasted March 2016.

Dark chocolate, cassis, very punchy tannins, austere and tense. Lots of flavour, but in a compact, impenetrable form. (RH)
