Tasted on three occasions, the Poujeaux looks set to be a fine Moulis with a harmonious, quite rounded bouquet that is pure and sensual: touches of red cherries and strawberry, demonstrating well integrated judicious use of oak. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins on the entry. The fruit is just a little pinched at the moment, but it shows fine symmetry and focus towards its masculine finish. [55CS/40M/5PV] Very nicely balanced, fairly fleshy for Moulis, with a moderate well textured tannin, and a fresh acidity; a ripe, gravel backed fruit of some depth and a lovely purity, long, even and harmonious for Poujeaux, with no suggestion of rusticity whatsoever, nor any 2011 asperity or acid spike. A potential sleeper of the vintage, Poujeaux is a property to watch now that the Cuvelier family (the proprietors of the impressive St.-Emilion estate of Clos Fourtet) are running the show. The 2011 exhibits a dense ruby/plum/purple color, elegant black currant fruit intermixed with hints of charcoal and new saddle leather, medium body, and a rich, savory, broad, pure, impressively endowed style. It is ideal for drinking over the next 8-10 years.

Bright medium ruby-red. Ripe aromas of blackberry, violet and roasted oak. Suave on entry, then firm and minerally in the mid-palate, with good definition to its perfumed dark fruit and cocoa flavors. Comes across as pliant despite its brisk acidity and serious tannins. Good ripeness on the finish.

Soft but ripe, with dark plum and cherry eau-de-vie notes and light toast and anise hints on the finish.-J.M.

One of the most successful wines in the Moulis-Listrac appellations, Poujeaux (owned by the Cuvelier family, also the proprietors of the impressive St.-Emilion estate of Clos Fourtet) has turned out a surprisingly good wine in 2011. Its dark ruby color is followed by sweet plum, black cherry and currant fruit, no herbaceousness, a medium-bodied, elegant mouthfeel, and noteworthy purity. Drink this tasty, mid-weight Moulis over the next 5-6 years.

Drink 2017-2026 Greyish deep crimson. Sweet plummy fruit with oak spice overlay and then a darker more savoury aroma that adds complexity. Just slightly dusty. Fine, powdery tannins at first but finishes a little too dry for comfort. (JH)

Marked oak on the nose and the oak dominates the palate too – shame because there's probably some freshness of fruit underneath. Dry but smooth texture. (JH)
