Tasting Notes and Scores
This is really incredible with so much fruit and structure. Tannic and rich. Mind-blowing. Almost pure merlot and amazing for it. Half a hectare and 6,000 bottles made. 95% merlot and 5% cabernet franc. Wow.
James Suckling
A pure, unadorned style, with fresh raspberry and damson plum notes that stretch out, underscored by singed apple wood. Remains fruit-driven overall.
Wine Spectator
The 2015 Vieux Maillet is medium garnet-purple in color with a nose of tar, rubber and scorched earth with black plums and blackberries plus a hint of garrigue. The palate is medium-bodied and just a little lean, with appealing freshness and purity.

The 2015 Château Vieux Maillet has a ripe, cranberry and bilberry-scented bouquet that feels a little pinched at the moment. The palate does not quite match the quality of the nose, firm and slightly pinched on the finish. Hopefully this will find its groove by the time it is in bottle.
Neal Martin
Lifted nose. Both rich and racy. Dry finish. Just a bit too tough on the end. And a little weak in the mid palate.
